Artistic Statement.

Since the first time I experienced works of the modern art masters I became enamoured with abstract art and all of its possibilities. Working in this art form and being released from the constraints and conventions of representational art is immensely freeing, rewarding and endlessly challenging.
My career has been predominately focussed in IT with art and design forever being a passion of mine. In addition to fine art, I have had the pleasure of exploring different design disciplines through my studies and work experience ranging from architecture and interior design to digital design and development (graphic/web/UI). As a visual artist, I find inspiration everywhere around me but no more so than in nature. There is an underlying rhythm and energy that permeates in nature – it is this and the sensorial experience of being in nature that I strive to evoke in my paintings. And the interplay of illumination and darkness is key. The way light travels through a painting by taking the eye on a journey; emerging and fading, accentuating and hiding, can transform a piece. I employ a variety of tools, traditional and improvisational, and my own language of reduced linear markings, blended colours and varied textures in my art. Working intuitively, I begin with just a flicker of an idea that is pushed, pulled and teased out until a vibrant and engaging painting emerges. "Abstract art is not the creation of another reality but the true vision of reality." Piet Mondrian |
“Abstract expressionism employs spontaneity and unrestrained expression, energy and creativity. The end result is never predictable or planned and always new and exciting.”
