Bio & Artist’s Statement My working career was in business, market research, multimedia and e-learning. Art is a lifelong interest and, since retiring, painting has been my focus.
My paintings explore Abstract Expressionism through emotion and intuition. Each blank canvas presents an opportunity to express myself through colour, movement and texture. To me, Abstract Expressionism is as much about what you feel when you look at a piece of art as what you see. Often I approach a painting without a plan letting my emotions dictate my direction on the canvas, sometimes bursting out in vivid colours and bold strokes; other times flowing in gentle tones and rhythmic movements. At the start of each new painting, I pick the size of canvas, the colours and the tools that speak to me that day. Then, the fun part begins - to simply let go and paint. While letting go sounds simple, it did not come naturally to me. I had to work at it.When the painting shows promise, I refine it, calm the rough edges and balance the shapes, colours and strokes. Sometimes, I paint over it and that is okay too!
