Biography & Statement
|
Pat was born in Hamilton, Ontario and currently resides in Oakville. Her working career was in business, market research, multimedia and e-learning. Since retiring, painting, cottage life and her extended family have been her focus.
Pat’s acrylic paintings explore Abstract Expressionism through emotion and intuition. Each blank canvas presents an opportunity to express her moods and inner reflections. Colour, movement and texture can express pain and sadness, or joy and playfulness. Her paintings are a visual dialogue between the painter and viewer, telling many stories limited only by the observer’s unique interpretation, imagination and emotions. Often, Pat approaches a painting without a plan. Her intuition dictates the direction of the piece, sometimes bursting out in vivid colours and bold strokes, other times flowing in gentle tones and rhythmic movements. Letting go of artistic structure to follow her instinct has been Pat’s greatest challenge. When the painting shows promise she refines it, calms the rough edges and balances the colours and strokes. And sometimes she paints over the original and starts again. |
“To me, Abstract Expressionism is about the feelings and emotions a painting evokes in the viewer."
